1940s Egg White + Indigo Dyed Jacket
Description
This is a one of a kind, antique jacket made by an indigenous Chinese ethnic group ~ the Zhaoxing Dong people ~ in Guizhou, China.
This jacket is around 80 years old. It was made entirely by hand in accordance with traditional Dong textile techniques, an intricate process that includes: growing and weaving cotton, dyeing it with indigo, coating it with egg whites, and then beating it with mallets.
This is why this textile has a leather-like sheen, though it is 100% cotton. This is a very exclusive jacket that is soft, durable, and will continue to age beautifully. A triumphant emblem of cultural heritage.
Please note: because this is a vintage item there are variations in color, tone, signs of wear, and other minor discrepancies. This is what makes this piece precious.
